Textiles (Edexcel) The main purpose of this course is to develop your ability to respond in a personal and creative way to a given brief through textiles. You will be developing your imaginative, analytical and documenting skills. You will also develop specialist vocabulary and the knowledge and understanding of the place of Textiles and Design in history and in contemporary society.
Spanish (AQA) You should be interested in languages and communication, and enjoy learning about other cultures and ways of life. You need to be interested in developing this understanding and in exploring in depth the topic areas that you will have covered at GCSE.
Sociology (AQA) Sociology is ideal for students who want to acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of contemporary social processes and structures. It will particularly appeal to those who enjoy debating contemporary social and political issues and who wish to study a subject which concerns their everyday life, broadening their understanding of the social world in which they live.
Religious Studies (Philosophy) This course focuses particularly on Philosophy of Religion and is a subject that by its nature requires candidates to consider individual, moral, ethical, social, cultural and contemporary issues. You will study the relationships between religion and culture and consider the moral values and attitudes of individuals and faith communities in contemporary society. You will also develop your skills in reasoning on matters concerning values, attitudes and actions and develop the ability to make responsible judgements on significant moral teaching and issues.
Psychology (AQA) Psychology is about people: how they think, how they act, react and interact. It is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations underlying such behaviour. On this course, you will have the opportunity to explore some of the main areas of Psychology and undertake some practical work.
Product Design The A-Level Design and Technology course in product design/resistant materials aims to help students develop, demonstrate and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of relevant materials, processes and techniques, and use materials and equipment to produce suitable and appropriate outcomes.
Physics (Edexcel) This course should appeal to all students who have interest in life in the 21st century. Subjects which combine well with Physics at A-Level are Design and Technology, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Information and Communication Technology and Computing. Physics is also a useful choice for students specialising in Music, Media Studies and Economics and Business.
Physical Education (AQA) You should have a keen interest in sport and have the ability to develop your own performance both in school and out. The ability to develop reasoned arguments and challenge stereotypes is an integral part of the course and you need to have the ability to undertake independent study and contribute to classroom discussion by presenting the opinions you have formed in the course of your individual research.
Photography You will need to complete a range of supporting tasks in your work journal that will develop your own photographic skills as well as your ability to develop ideas, explore and research contextual evidence from art history and artists, photographers including visits to galleries and museums.
Music (OCR) The course demands performing, composing, listening and analytical skills in almost equal measure. You will improve your skills in performing and composing in a range of styles. You will listen to a wide variety of music and develop a more informed appreciation of how and why it was written and/or performed.
